The Annotated Statutes, Court Rules & Decisions Menu is arranged
to help you navigate through the Document Categories and select
a Document. The document can be displayed, printed, or written
to a file. This help file contains descriptions on:
o NAVIGATOR STRIP - The navigator strip at the bottom of the
screen describes what key strokes are active with that
screen.
o DOCUMENT SELECTION - Select from the hierarchical
categories down to a set of documents. Selection of a
document (menu text in upper/lower case) will display a
document. Going back to a category (text in upper case
only) will move back to that level in the categories.
o WRITE DOCUMENT TO FILE - To write a document to a file type
F. Select the format or Cancel. The document will be
written to \LAWDOC\TEMP.OUT.
o PRINT DOCUMENT - To print the document type P. The program
will ask the user if the printer is ready on PRN:.
The following section give a more detail description for each of
these topics.
NAVIGATOR STRIP:
The navigator strip at the bottom of the screen describes the
keystrokes that can be used with the active screen. The navigator
strip changes each time the display screen changes. The different
fields in the navigator strip are:
o Scroll Up/down - the up arrow and down arrow keys are used to
scroll up and down the active screen.
o Select Top/Bottom - the home key goes to the top of the
document and the end key goes to the bottom of the document.
o Select document - the enter key will select the document that
is highlighted. The scroll up/down is used to highlight the
desired document.
o Main menu - the escape key is used to return to the main menu.
From the Main menu, the escape key exits the program.
o Print document - enter the letter p to print a document.
o File output - enter the letter f to write the file out.
DOCUMENT SELECTION:
The Documents are arranged in hierarchical Categories. There are
hundreds of separate Documents in the system. The top-level
Categories are all labeled with a "1" to the left of the Category
name, as in the following example:
---------<< Statutes Menu >>----------------------
Press Enter for HELP
1 <- US SUPREME COURT DECISIONS CATEGORY
1 <- UNIFORM ACT CATEGORY
1 <- FEDERAL STATUTES AND REGULATIONS CATEGORY
1 <- FEDERAL COURT RULES CATEGORY
1 <- STATE COMPUTER CRIMES LAWS CATEGORY
1 <- GENERAL STATUTES
1 <- ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL RULE CATEGORY
----------------------------------------------------------------

| ^ v | Home End | Enter | Escape |
If one of these Categories is selected (by moving the red bar
onto it and pressing "RETURN" or clicking on it with the mouse),
the Category that was selected will remain displayed at the top
of the list, and the Subcategories under that Category will be
listed below it. The Subcategories will be indented, and will
all be marked with a "2" to the left of the Subcategory name.
See below:
-----------<< Statutes Menu >>------------------
Press Enter for HELP
1 <- UNIFORM ACT CATEGORY
2 <- UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE
2 <- MODEL BUSINESS CORPORATION ACT
2 <- MODEL PENAL CODE
2 <- MODEL PROBATE CODE
2 <- ALL OTHERS
----------------------------------------------------------------

|Scroll up/down|List top/bottom|Select document|Main menu|
| ^ v | Home End | Enter | Escape |
At this point, picking the original Category name ("UNIFORM ACT
CATEGORY" in this case) will return the user to the list of
top-level Categories.
Picking one of the Subcategories will produce a list with
the original Category, and Subcategory, still displayed, and the
Documents available in that Subcategory listed below, as in the
following example:
------------<< Statutes Menu >>---------------------
Press Enter for HELP
1 <- UNIFORM ACT CATEGORY
2 <- UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE
Article 1, General Definitions
Article 2, Sales Part 1 of 2
Article 2, Sales Part 2 of 2
Article 3, Commercial Paper 1 of 2
Article 3, Commercial Paper 2 of 2
Article 4, Commercial Paper
Article 4A, Electronic Fund Transfers Part 1 of 2
Article 4A, EFT Part 2 of 2
Article 5, Letters of Credit
Article 6, Bulk Sales
Article 7, Warehouse Receipts
----------------------------------------------------------------
________________________________________________________________
|Scroll up/down|List top/bottom|Select document|Main menu|
| ^ v | Home End | Enter | Escape |
Notice that menu items in UPPERCASE are Categories; the names of
Documents are displayed in Mixed Upper And Lower Case; also, the
Documents have no level number.
If one of the Documents (such as "Article 1, General Definitions") is
selected, the program will display the document. Pressing ESC at
this point will return the user to the Document list.
The keystroke commands available from any point in the program are
displayed on a bar at the bottom of the screen, which changes as
appropriate.
WRITE DOCUMENT TO A FILE:
There are times when a user needs to process a document
using other programs. The system can output a file to
\LAWDOC\TEMP.OUT. This file can be in ASCII, MicroSoft Word,
WordPerfect, or WordStar format. You must then copy this temporary
file to whatever location you desire, for permanent storage. Note
that if more than one file is output, then only the last file
outputted will be in \LAWDOC\TEMP.OUT. YOU MUST ALWAYS copy your
earlier \LAWDOC\TEMP.OUT before outputting a second file.
PRINT DOCUMENT:
To print a document enter the letter P. A print box is displayed
that asks if the printer is defined as PRN:. A Yes/No option is
given to print the document.
